JAWS Dongle USBA dongle is a hardware device that you can connect to one of your computer's parallel or USB ports. JAWS will be authorized to run on that computer as long as the dongle remains connected. You do not need to use an ILM Activation License code or Quella authorization key to authorize the dongle version of JAWS. Dongles are useful for those who need to travel from site to site or use many different computers on a regular basis. However, dongles cannot be used to authorize Network JAWS users. Dongle authorization is available upon request for JAWS dongle versions 4.5 or later and many international releases. JAWS 6.0 and higher ILM (Internet License Manager) versions will recognize authorization from both the ILM license as well as a hardware dongle. When you install JAWS, the dongle option and drivers are set to install by default. Note that if you choose Guided or Advanced installation, you can uncheck the dongle option and choose to not have JAWS install the necessary drivers. However, this is not recommended. You can verify whether the dongle driver is being installed in the dialog box that asks to review your installation selections. When you launch JAWS 6.0 or later, the program looks first for a current dongle authorization and, if it does not find it, looks for an ILM license.
